Organic agriculture makes an impact at the 2007 Ag Info Days in Barrie
It is the start of a new year crop year and interest in organic agriculture in this area is growing in leaps and bounds.

A special section on organic farming techniques and a panel discussion was included at this year's Agricultural Information Days at the Barrie Event Centre this past January, for the first time ever, showing just how much interest there is from farmers and the public in the topic.

A number of local members also attended this year's Organic Conference at Guelph University in January and came back pumped up for another, new growing season. With recent legislative changes at the federal level you will also see a growing interest amongst local members to seek full organic certification.

 

Now that some national standards have been drafted by the Canadian General Standards Board, and passed into law on Dec. 21, 2006 you must be certified in order to use the term organic in any of your marketing literature. That also the terms ecological, biological or bio dynamic.

The Simcoe County chapter recently formed a steering committee of six members, who will act as an executive to set goals, arrange training and information sessions and plan for this year's organic farmers market at Hempola Farm in Dalston, among other things...

WEEKLY ECO-FARMERS’ MARKET

The dates have been set for this years Eco Farmers' Market at Hempola Farms in Dalston.

It will run Fridays from 3:30 p.m - dusk from June 22 to October 5, 2007 at Hempola Farms, which is at the corner of Hwy. 93 and Forbes Road  (take the Hwy 400 cutoff - north).

This is a producer-only farmers’ market and a place to purchase locally grown, ecologically and organically produced food
